It is used to cure panic disorders or seizure disorders. This medicine affects chemicals in our brain which becomes unbalanced during seizures and cause anxiety. This drug is listed as a FDA pregnancy category D drug. It is a habit-forming drug and should only be used by the person prescribed to take the medicine. Klonopin has various side effects such as confusion, hallucinations, weak or shallow breathing, unusual thoughts or behavior, unusual risk-taking behavior, unusual eye movements, no fear of danger, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in the chest, less or infrequent urination, painful or difficult urination, easy bleeding or bruising, pale skin etc.
It has a few less common side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and headache, problems with thinking or memory, muscle weakness, tired feeling, slurred speech, sore gums, drooling or dry mouth, runny or stuffy nose, nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, blurred vision etc.
The patient should also confer with the doctor if he is taking other drugs such MAO inhibitors, antidepressants, barbiturates etc. In case of missed dose or overdose, the patient may suffer from fainting or extreme drowsiness. The doctor should be immediately consulted in such cases.
Klonopin is to be taken by the patient regularly as prescribed. The patients are encouraged to follow the doctor’s prescription strictly. Klonopin is available in the market in the form of tablets. It is also to be noted that this drug is generally used in shorter periods. So do not take Klonopin for any longer than 10 days.
